Former Eyeworks International Distribution executive Tyler Massey announced today that he has launched his own company, MassMedia International. Based in Los Angeles, MMI represents and distributes television formats and finished series from producers and broadcasters around the world, as well as creates original TV formats and finished programs across a range of genres, including reality, scripted, entertainment, and documentary series.

Representing content from established and up-and-coming producers and developing markets, MMI will bring to MIPCOM a number of fresh formats from a variety of producers across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Additionally, MMI connects strategic partners around the globe to facilitate international co-development and co-productions of new and existing IP.

MMI’s initial format offerings are CHINESE SPELLING HERO from 3C Media in China, the third most popular of all television series to air in China in 2013, and THE BIG FIVE CHALLENGE from Goddunnit Promotions in Zimbabwe, as aired on Discovery’s Animal Planet across UK and EMEA.

Tyler Massey, President of MassMedia International: “The industry is embracing good ideas from markets big and small, and MMI is committed to developing territories who have historically been format importers only into exporters as well. Some of the strongest and most unique concepts are created in the most unlikely of places, and I’m excited to work with these talented partners to bring their original ideas to the global marketplace.”

Seven contestants under the age of 18 compete in each episode to make it through the 13 Gong playing board by drawing the correct traditional Chinese character for a given word or answer to a Chinese idiom. The winners go on to the next round, and in the finale, the best five contestants from previous episodes, two revived by audience vote, and one app winner, compete for the final victory. Viewers play along at home on the show’s app to win points and a chance to compete in person.

Six contestants compete to photograph the Big Five over five days in this exciting reality wildlife series. Set in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, South Africa, each team has five days in which to spot the ‘Big Five’ (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, and leopard) with a digital photograph taken to verify the animal sighting. The winning team will be determined by the best photograph and the highest number of points accumulated. Each team will be allocated an armed guide and a spotter vehicle, but will not be allowed any tracking assistance. The interactions between human and beast will be breathtaking as these contestants risk life and limb to have an experience of a lifetime!
